Installation

First steps

Sign in as the Owner with your email, password and the 6-digit code from your authenticator app. Then set up the basics in this order.

1. Add a region

Regions → Add region (under Fleet in the sidebar). A region is a location, such as code ams1, city “Amsterdam”, country “NL”. A fresh install has none, and nodes can’t be enrolled until one exists.

2. Add a node group

Node groups → New group. Pick the region, make it public, and let it accept servers. Its placement rule decides which node each new server lands on. See Regions and node groups.

3. Outgoing email

Settings → Outgoing email. Add your SMTP server, then Send test, which shows the SMTP server’s answer. Without it, invitations, password resets and alerts aren’t sent; the controller logs each email it couldn’t send.

4. DNS hosting (optional)

Settings → DNS hosting. Add the 2 to 4 nameservers customers point their domains at. Then connect PowerDNS at Network → Reverse DNS → PowerDNS. See DNS with PowerDNS.

5. Invite your team

Staff & roles. Admin, Support and Network ops are built in, and you can make your own roles. See Staff and roles.

6. Backup storage and plans

Fleet → Backup storage → Add storage: an S3 bucket or SFTP server, then make Backup plans under Catalog and attach them to packages. See Backups.

Check: the region and node group show up, and Nodes says there are no nodes yet. Next, prepare a hypervisor.
