Reporting a problem
Administration → Report a problem (/admin/report-problem) sends a problem to VorticPanel support straight from the panel. It opens a ticket in the account on vorticpanel.com that holds this panel’s license, in Bug reports, and the answer comes by email. You don’t need to sign in to the website or copy logs by hand.
It needs the Report problems permission, which the built-in Owner and Admin roles have.
Sending a report
- Give the report a Subject (3 to 150 characters) and say in Details (10 to 10,000) what you did, what you expected and what happened instead. Error messages help, copied as they are.
- Under What it’s about, pick a Node if the problem is on one. When you start from a failed job (its page has Report a problem), the job and its server are filled in.
- Leave Send the diagnostics with it ticked, unless you’d rather not send them.
- Click Send report. The page shows the ticket’s number and a link to it.
What the diagnostics hold
The diagnostics are shown in full on the right before you send anything, and only what’s shown is sent. They are:
- the panel’s version, address and license (with the key masked), and how many nodes and servers it has;
- each node: its status, agent version, kernel, QEMU and libvirt versions, storage, CPU and number of servers;
- the server, node or job the report is about, with its recent jobs, and the job’s whole log;
- failed jobs from the last 7 days (the newest 10), each with the last 30 lines of its log.
Nodes, servers and jobs go in only as far as the reporter’s role can see them on their own pages.
Passwords, private keys, API keys, tokens and people’s email addresses are left out. IP addresses and hostnames stay in, since problems with networks and moves usually need them.
Download saves the same text as a file, and Refresh gathers it again.
When a report can’t be sent
Reports go with the panel’s license key, so a panel without one can’t send them. If the panel can’t reach vorticpanel.com, or the report is turned down, the page says why. In either case, click Download, then open a ticket from your account on vorticpanel.com and attach the file.
Security problems
